we don't let our Selves dream enough

“an observation from a client meeting today:
when we look at our dreams, goals, and authentic life first through the lens of finance, we limit what we believe is possible and, ultimately what IS possible.
we need to shift to examining these first through our heart, energy, and excitement where anything is possible and then running it through the finances.
there’s no guarantee that everything will fit into the financial plan, but dreams, goals, and authentic life might be closer than you realize—and you’ll never know if you don’t give your Self the freedom to explore.”

I shared this last night on LinkedIn.

As I thought about this more this morning, I understood that many of us find it hard to allow our Self to dream—really dream about what it is we want for our Self.

It might be conditioning from society, parents, teachers, and other influences that silences our truest desires.

It might be the fear of the changes to be made to bring our dreams to reality.

It might be the limitations of finances.

It might be…

The list of reasons why you might not be giving your Self the freedom to dream without limitations is endless and unique to you. Once you identify why you’ve never really sat down to think about what you want your life to look like, who you want to become, and what you feel called to do you can work through those limitations and begin to dream.

I think sometimes we think we’re going to dream too big, only to be disappointed because it’s not realistic. And while I think some people might have unrealistic dreams, I think most of us have reasonable aspirations and even the BHAGs are more attainable than we think because of the passion and purpose associated with them.

Instead of reasoning with your Self about what is realistic and what isn’t when thinking about your dreams and, ultimately, your authentic life, remove the limitations and let your heart, energy, and emotions act as your guide—dream big and then you can apply reason later.

The life of your dreams—your authentic life is probably closer than you realize if you’d allow your Self to see past the obstacles that may not exist or may not be as immobile as you think they are.

I go back and forth about how well I want to set the boys up financially when they are older. As of right now, I’d like to be able to gift them a significant amount of money when they are in their 30s, assuming they continue to have good heads on their shoulders and are doing well independently. I’d like to gift them money at that stage of their lives because I am hopeful that what I live and talk about rubs off on them, that they have a good understanding of who they are, what they value the...
